The Genesee Valley Rotary Club (GVRC) began through the efforts of Jack Hamady, who was a member of the Flint Rotary Club and Past District Governor, with the assistance of fellow Rotarians Ray Kelley and Jerry Whitemore.  Business people in the Genesee Valley Shopping Center and nearby communities of Swartz Creek and Flushing were contacted in 1977 regarding the information of a Rotary club.  The Genesee Valley Rotary Club was a provisional that grew rapidly and received its charter at the District Conference held in Port Huron on May 17th, 1977.  Its first president was Jerry Whittemore who also became District Governor in 1986.  The Genesee Valley Rotary Club is one of eight clubs in Area 7, in District 6330 of Rotary International.
