The subject of Bob's talk is how schools are meeting the challenge of their students who suffer from adverse childhood experiences ("ACE") ranging from neglect to abuse to household dysfunction. The more ACEs a child experiences the greater the impact on their young minds but ACEs also create long-term health complications.
Carrie Germain, Swartz Creek School Board Katie Hunt, Morrish Elementary Principal
Carrie and Katie are team members of the planning team for the annual "Connections to Wellness in the Creek" community resources event to be held on Tuesday, April 4th in Swartz Creek. Our Rotary club plans to have a table at this event as we did last year. Club members who participated in last year's event were pleased with the community turnout which gave some visibility to our club and the service we have given to the residents of the Swartz Creek area.
Feb. 20, 2024 - Students of the Month
Each month during the school year the club honors two students from each of three high schools in the area, Carman-Ainsworth, Swartz Creek and Powers Catholic. To accommodate each school's health policies, we will be honoring students either via Zoom or in person this year.
At the end of the year one previous honoree from each school will be selected for Student of the Year and will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

50/50 Drawing Update
Each week the club holds a 50/50 drawing with proceeds going to our literacy project fund. Tickets are $1.00 each, 3 for $2.00. Three tickets from that week's donations are drawn and, in turn, each drawn ticket holder gets to select a card from an ever shrinking deck hoping to get the designated card and win the pot. Losing cards are discarded, the deck gets smaller and if no one wins the pot that week, it is rolled over to the next drawing.
After the meeting of: Feb. 13, 2024
The pot was: $13.00 Cards Left: 49
